Celebration of Hair

beard( P )(bîrd) n.
1. The hair on a man's chin, cheeks, and throat.
2. A hairy or hairlike growth such as that on or near the face of certain mammals.
3. A tuft or group of hairs or bristles on certain plants, such as barley and wheat.
4. One who serves to divert suspicion or attention from another.
5. Printing. The raised slope on a piece of type between the shoulder or counter and the face. Also called neck.

Beards are fun! The way they slope down off of the chin, how they catch pieces of food in them and how most people with beards look like lumberjacks. Who doesn't love a lumberjack?

That's why today, Tuesday May 16, 2006, the s.o.f. wants you to embrace beard fun at the New York City Beard and Moustache Championships at 8pm at the Knitting Factory (74 Leonard St.) $15 a person for beard contests of every variety and probably some unexpected beard fun. Check it...www.nycbeard.com. You dont have to have a beard to attend, but it sure does help.

It's what Jesus and Abraham Lincoln had in common, which is why it deserves and enthusiastic s.o.f. "TOOOT TOOOT!"
