playing telephone

a big thanks to our foriegn correspondant ellen for introducing us to skype before she fled the country.

if the 20somethings of the 90s were generation x, i prefer to think of our current age demographic as generation landlineless. while it's easier on the wallet, it's certainly the worst case senario when you do something stupid like oh, i don't know, decide to lose your cell phone on the day you leave work sick and thus have no means of communicating with good ole verizon wireless to rectify the situation?

skype allows you to make computer to computer phone calls and, for the time being, computer to actual phone calls FOR FREE!

what a treat. not only were the verizon service agents sweet as pie, they sounded clear as a bell! a note for future reference, make sure not to get rid of your phone when you upgrade with verizon. they'll turn your old one on for free should you wind up with your's lost and stolen -- and that's WITHOUT paying the protection plan.

our foreign correspondant and i have finally caught each other on the skype, despite the incredible time lapse between countries. fingers crossed that computer to phone calls stay free in '07!
