i left my heart in red hook

former first mate of fun maya had a dream. a dream of grilled corn, grass sitting and key lime pie. this past saturday, that dream became a lovely reality.

ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the beauty and wonder that is redhook.

maya had been following the saga of the red hook soccer fields via the porkchop express all summer. we watched anthony bourdain eat cerviche there. we planned trips that never came to fruition. then a small group made it to redhook, but not to the fields. but we just had to try it for ourselves before the man (doh) came to shut them down. it was everything that we had dreamed of and then a little bit more. we stuffed ourselves silly, laid on the grass and watched a game.

the highlight of the trip for me wasn't at the soccer fields, but at pier 41. it was there i discovered the true meaning of life - the swingle. yes my friends, that sight you behold is in fact a chocolate covered key lime pie... ON A STICK. made by steve's authentic, it had to be the most delectable snack i've had since my first sugar sweet sunshine bakery cupcake.

i wish i could move to redhook, but apparently the only true transport in and out of it is water taxi. do you think they sell sea legs on ebay? also, the price of rent is a little ridiculous for a neighborhood comprised mostly of fields of school buses. oh who am i kidding? i'd sell my soul to corporate america for the chance to live here before it gets gentrified.
